Rectangular mountings, sandwich mountings, rectangular type sandwich mountings, sandwich mounts or sandwich type mountings are typical products in the rubber mountings series that are widely used for fixing engines of road vehicles and mobile construction plant. Larger sized mountings can be used as vehicle suspension springs and as mountings for acoustic chambers, hoppers and various types of heavy plant installation. Suitable for loads up to 8kN per mounting, the rubber in the mountings is bonded between two metal plates with holes at each end for fitting. The rubber used in fabrication provides the necessary cushion to the metallic parts from load deflection.
The name sandwich is derived from its layered construction. Sandwich mountings or sandwich mounts can be availed in multiple sizes depending upon the requirements. Each size is manufactured using different hardness rubber compounds that ultimately result in a wide range of load deflection capacities of mountings. Most of these mountings are manufactured with fine quality metals preferably steel and high grade rubber. Some designs of rectangular type sandwich mountings incorporate steel interleaves for increased load capacity.
Similar to other mountings, sandwich mountings also help in minimizing the effects of vibrations produced by running engines. Typical applications of sandwich type mountings include mounting of diesel engines, machine tools, test beds, vibratory hoppers, conveyors, exhaust ventilation systems, gantries and concrete moulds. These are also used in electronic equipments for eliminating the vibrations and in heavy installation carriage for shock absorptions.
